I was initiated into Reiki in 2000, after learning of this beautiful and gentle healing system from a holistic veterinarian. I was drawn to learn Reiki to help keep my four-legged family healthy, but now I share it with my two-legged friends as well. 
 
My Reiki training is eclectic, containing elements of non-traditional independently taught Reiki and traditional Usui Reiki Ryoho. I became a teacher of an independent, non-traditional Reiki lineage in 2004.
 
In March 2008, I realized a long-time dream of studying the traditional Japanese Reiki system with internationally renowned Reiki teachers, authors and Reiki researchers Frans and Bronwen Stiene of the International House of Reiki in Australia. Since that transformative experience, I have adapted my Reiki practice and the classes I teach to reflect the beautiful simplicity of the classical Japanese system of Reiki. Reiki has become much more than a "treatment" practice, but has become a path of personal spiritual growth.
 
I have also had a personal yoga and meditation practice since 1990. I became a certified Hatha Yoga instructor in 2003 under the instruction of long-time and much-loved local teacher Chris Lee. My teaching philosophy focuses on a gentle and meditative approach to practicing the physical postures. My hope is to preserve the traditional aim of Hatha Yoga - the integration of body, mind and spirit, and the awakening of our true nature.
 
One morning during the period of my yoga teacher training, I suffered a severe rupture to my L5-S1 disk - by sitting up in bed! After an out-patient procedure to "clean up" the rupture, I used Hatha yoga and Reiki to rehabilitate my back. Within three years I had made remarkable improvement, although I often suffered from back spasms.
 
In 2006, I discovered the practice of Yin Yoga as taught by Paul Grilley. Within three weeks of integrating the Yin poses into my daily practice, the back spasms had disappeared and I had regained confidence in the strength and flexibility of my back.
 
Experience has convinced me of the healing power of energy medicine, especially in the forms of Hatha Yoga and Reiki. But don't take my word for it. Try it for yourself.
